Description
Pordenone. In the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia we offer the exclusive manor of Cosa Castle, which boasts a long and illustrious history of noble rule.
Its origins date back to the 9th century, when a fortress was built for defensive purposes on the Tagliamento River.
The castle, surrounded by a park of centuries-old trees, retains its original rectangular shape with 3 corner towers (the fourth was demolished during the Great War) and is surrounded by a large 12th-century wall.
The historic main building consists of 3 floors:
The ground floor of approximately 1,060 square metres and a height of 3.40 metres consists of a large storage area (it used to house a ‘wine museum’), toilets with anti-services and a thermal power station, an archive, an office in the south-east tower, a rustic kitchen and a dining room in the south-west tower.
From this floor there is access to the ageing cellar, located approximately 1.5 metres below ground level.
The first floor, or piano nobile, (a total of approximately 780 square metres and a height of 4.50 metres with exposed wooden beams), accessible among other things by the double external staircase, houses four halls frescoed by Friulian painter Mario Rabassi between 1989 and 1991; the images depicted have a close connection with both the wine context and the history of the building, in fact there are the coats of arms of the city and the families linked to the Castle together with allegorical images of grapes and wine. These halls, given their large capacity, are suitable for organising concerts, music and dance evenings, conferences, weddings, theme parties, exhibitions and more. The floors, with floor heating, are all covered with Venetian granite. There are also toilets with anti-services and a large uncovered terrace of about 280 square metres.
On the same level in the south-eastern tower there is a room already used as a kitchen and in the south-western tower a utility room, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom.
The second floor (also of approximately 780 square metres) is entirely destined as an attic in which the old wooden beams of the roof are still present, a room in the south-east tower and one in the south-west tower, from which, by climbing another floor, one can reach the ‘Belvedere Tower’. Finally, the north tower is entirely used as a service staircase connecting the three floors of the building.
The castle is equipped with a heating system running on mains methane gas.
Adjacent to the castle there is a large warehouse consisting of two above-ground floors for a total of over 500 square metres that also houses a storage room, bathroom, workshop and cellar (with double height) and an enclosed porch.
The property is completed by an adjoining building on two floors of approx. 79 sq m each, intended for the caretaker's house, some storerooms and storerooms with a total area of approx. 64 sq m.
The old stables have been renovated and used as guest quarters or bed & breakfast.
The Cosa Castle is located in Cosa in the municipality of San Giorgio della Richinvelda, approx. 28 km from Pordenone and 31 km from Udine. The location is easily accessible from Trieste airport (1 hour 20 minutes), Venice airport (1 hour 15 minutes) and railway station from Padua (1 hour 30 minutes).
